The Money Is In The List

If you listen to any professional marketer, they will all agree on one thing.  The money is in the list!  To be successful in this industry, first you build a list.  Then, you build a relationship with the people on your list.  Finally, you sell stuff to the people on your list over and over again.  Yes, it really is that simple.

So, if you’re going to be a successful marketer, you will need to build your own list.  I am going to show you the exact way to do that…starting from the very beginning.  Before you can even think about building a list, you’ll need a domain name….your OWN domain name.

Step 1 – Your Own Domain Name

If you are serious about making money in this industry, you need to have your own domain name.  If you already have your own domain name, you can skip this first step as this is all that will be covered here.  However, even the seasoned pro will pick up a few “gold nuggets” here so I encourage everyone to read this regardless of whether you are a complete newbie or a seasoned pro.

While you are in the process of building your list, you will be building a relationship with the people on your list.  The people that know you, like you and trust you will stay on your list.  The people that have little in common with you will simply unsubscribe…which is exactly what you want to happen.  You will discover that you will be attracting “like minded” people, just like yourself to your list.  More on attraction marketing will be covered later.

Choosing a Domain Name

You should give plenty of thought when it comes to choosing a domain name.  Once you learn more about different forms of marketing and all the different ways there are to making money online…you will probably own more than one domain name.  At the time of this writing, I own 30 different domain names.  It may seem like a lot…but, in reality, it really isn’t.  There are people that own even more than that.  Once you discover multiple streams of income, you will want more domain names for yourself.  They are very inexpensive at only about $10 per year.  It is not a big expense to do things right.  But for now…we will start with only one.  Later, when we talk about “hosting”, you will understand how to use multiple domain names for different streams of income.  Like I said, for now, we will start with only one.

I suggest that you try to get a domain name with your own personal name as part of it.  For instance, my name is “Steve Lucas”.  It is a common name and I could not buy SteveLucas.com as it was already taken.  It will be the same for you if you have a common name.  However, if you have a unique and different name, you may get lucky and get a domain as yourname.com. You could add online at the end of your name as I have done with this domain.   Be creative!  I own:

  • WhoIsSteveLucas.com
  • MeetSteveLucas.com
  • Steve-Lucas.Info
  • SteveLucas.Biz

…only to name a few.

If you are one of those people that dislike your name so much that you simply do NOT want to use it…there is an option for you also.  And, that is a Company Name.  As some of you already know, I also use a company name.  Since the name of my company is Sky High Marketing, LLC…I use the term Sky High in a lot of my domain names.  For instance:

  • SkyHighWealth.com
  • SkyHighWealthTeam.com
  • SkyHighWealthSystems.com
  • SkyHighWealthSolutions.com

…only to name a few.

So, no matter if you want to use your own personal name or a company name…or, even a “nickname”, remember…give it some thought a choose a good one.  You don’t want to spend a lot of time building a name for yourself, building a list for yourself…and then, later…deciding that you don’t like the name.

Be Sure To Get A Dot Com

You may see during your search for your domain name that a “Dot Com” (.com) is not available but a .net, .org, .info, .us…etc is available.  You definitely want your main domain name to be a Dot Com (.com) name.  (That means that the “.com” is the extension at the end as in the examples above.)

I don’t want you to think that anything other than a “dot com” will be….Ok.  It won’t!  Be SURE that your main domain name is a “Dot Com”… no exceptions!  Now, you may notice that, in some of the above examples, I have some domains other than “dot coms”.  Yes, it is true…but they are NOT my main domains and I do not use them for anything important.  I use them only for testing different things.  All of my IMPORTANT domains are “dot com” domains.  With that being said…let’s move on to how and where to purchase your domain name.  There will also be a video below showing you how to do a search for a domain name.

You may or may not have noticed that all domain names in the address bar do not have Upper Case letters.  You can enter your domain with Upper Case letters but your browser will automatically change them to lower case letters.  You will notice that I use Upper Case letters for the beginning of each word.  The reason for this is that it makes your domain name MUCH easier to read.  I also do this in all of my advertising for the same reason…it is easier to read and it also looks better.

Again…I realize that, for some of the pros, this information may seem elementary.  But, if you are new to online marketing, like a lot of people that come here,  then you need good directions and that’s why I make my training so complete.

I Like “GoDaddy”

Godaddy is the name of the company that I like to buy my domain names from.  They have very reasonable prices and the service is very good.  Service is important…especially in the beginning when you may need answers to questions that you can’t find.  You can call or chat with Customer Service at GoDaddy and find the answers to questions you may have.

GoDaddy is often running a special where you can get your domain name for less than $10 for your first year.  That is a real bargain!  Here is a link you can follow to get to the GoDaddy site:

Domain Sale! $7.49 .com at GoDaddy

I have made a video below that shows me actually going to GoDaddy and searching for a domain name.  You may want to watch the video before purchasing your domain.

Once you have purchased your domain name, you may want to forward it to another site, such as a company replicated site.  Here is a video that will show you how to do just that!  It is called:

Forward and Masking

Keep in mind also that, GoDaddy will also become one of your “Income Streams”.  Remember, you will have multiple income streams as we move forward and GoDaddy is only 1 of the many you will have.  After you purchase your domain name, you automatically become an “affiliate” for no extra cost and you will make money (get paid) for people that you introduce GoDaddy to.

Most people are only interested in getting you to join their business.  They don’t even think about all the money that is “left on the table” by not telling you about these multiple streams of income.  Now, you are finally learning how to “do it right”!
